Paragraph #11: The quotation is an example of a simile. Explain why.

"But alas! we do like cowbirds and cuckoos, which lay their eggs in nests which other birds have built, and cheer no traveller with their chattering and unmusical notes."

    A simile is defined as " a figure of speech involving the comparison of one thing with another thing of a different kind, used to make a description more emphatic or vivid" Based on this, it might be said that there is a comparison between the narrator and two birds. It might be understood that he tends to use things from other people and he gives them credit for.
