Sometimes the perspectives that writers choose not to include are as important as those that they do include. Consider how including the perspective of Gualtieri and Griselda's daughter might have altered the text of the "Tenth Day: Tenth Story." Why did Boccaccio choose to exclude this young woman's perceptions from the story? Your answer should be at least 250 words.

The story in itself without the young woman's perception is complete and effective. It keeps the reader hooked and focused on Griselda's character. Putting in her daughter's perception would make up another angle and another unique story in itself. There would be a tendency to show the similarities or differences between the mother and the daughter's character and personality. Since the daughter is raised differently and in different conditions with that of Griselda, there is a tendency that she would be a distinct person with an outlook that may either be similar or exactly the opposite of her mother's.

I believe Boccacio has intentionally left out the young lady's side of the story because it would rob the focus on Griselda's good character which is the main concern of the story. Gualtieri was testing Griselda's worth by pretending to reject her and disposing off of her children. In addition, it is one way of letting the audience take part in the unraveling of the plot and in the interpretation of the story. The reader becomes an active participant in making the story come alive and become realistic in the reader's mind and imagination. Lastly, putting in the young lady's perception would not make the story as effective and interesting as it is. The impact of the revelation and the climax would not be that emphatic. The story would be predictable and ordinary if all the details are given to the reader. This exclusion of the daughter's thoughts keeps the reader in suspense and anticipation; thus, making this story really worth reading.
