The dramatic devices of asides and soliloquies are used in Macbeth to describe the protagonist's inner thoughts.

The aside, where Macbeth speaks of his "black and deep desires" offers audience an insight into his thoughts that can compel him to any extent for the throne. Though aware of the evil nature of these thoughts, Macbeth shirks the moral responsibility of accepting that they are erroneous. This will later lead the tragic hero to a downward spiral in his life.
