I know you are new at this company, Chris, and couldn't possibly know this, but the project has been ruined because we weren't qualified to do the things we did. I think we need to take a hard look at ourselves and ask whether we were really right for the job and in fact whether we have any business working on a job this prestigious. Don't you think, Chris? Which attitude does the narrator most likely have?

It's not very clear; there's not enough of it. You need a little more. My first reaction would be that it is sarcasm. They could not have been trying to do something that was very large and not know what they were doing. Unless they were immensely wealthy, they could not get anyone to invest in their project.

Chris is some sort of expert in the field. He might be getting the idea that they should not have been doing what they were doing. This is a masterpiece of false modesty, but it is still sarcastic.
