Why is a sonnet appropriate for romeo and juliet when they first meet?

The higher form of poetry allows us to understand that something very significant is happening, and also the fact that most of Shakespeare's sonnets focused on the theme of love, his most famous tale of love is most certainly deserving of a sonnet.
