    Mrs. Jong is willing to adopt new american rules so that Waverly can become a chess champion because she remembers how difficult it was for her to make a living in America when she arrived. She thinks that US society is competitive and hard to survive, she had to learn everything by herself and is willing to adopt this rules because she believes in her daughter's talent to play chess. She wants a different experience for her that the one she had.
