The effect the resolution have on the overall meaning of the passage is the fact that, the woman who the narrator thought was trapped in the wallpaper was no one but the narrator herself.

    Explanation:

'The Yellow Wallpaper' is a short story written by Charlotte Gilman, which is about a woman who is suffering from depression. Resolution of any story is the part when the main issue or problem is resolved.

In the story it so happens that the narrator along with her husband moves to a new house where the narrator shows interest in an ugly yellow wallpaper found in her bedroom.

As the narrator's state of mind worsen, she begins to see a woman who she thinks is trapped inside the wallpaper. So she decided to free her by ripping the paper off the wall.

And that's when the resolution of the story takes place. As the narrator starts ripping the yellow paper, she gets to know that it was herself who was trapped in the wallpaper, and when she completely removed the wallpaper, that was the time when she was finally free.
