Why did the Nazis force Jews to dig graves? Was there a reason besides the practical reason that it was considered efficient? What is your interpretation of the phrase, repeated several times, "there you won't lie too cramped"?

On top of the fact that making the people dig their own graves was the Nazi's twisted thinking of "efficient," it was also used as a physological torture. The Jewish people forced to dig such graves knew that they would be killed and put in these graves, and the Nazis said "There you won't lie to cramped," to horrify the diggers even more.
