In the poem, she likens Hope with a bird. She uses metaphor and personification describing the actions and characteristics of hope very similar to a bird. Like the words,

" " Hope" is the thing with feathers - That perches in the soul -

And sings the tune without the words -

And never stops - at all - "

Finding Flight highlights on the existence of hope despite the darkness and the bleakness.
