What was Tom's major offense and the object of Aunt Polly's interrogation?

    Tom pretended he and a bunch of other town boys died.

    Tom pretended he and a bunch of other town boys died even making the townspeople make a funeral for them. Aunt Polly understandably was upset and questioned Tom about faking his own death.
