    "The Necklace", also known as "The Diamond Necklace", is a short story written by Guy de Maupassant that narrates the story of Madame Mathilde Loisel and her husband, who, in their attempt to achieve what Madame Loisel has always dreamed about for her life, end up losing it all only to find out that their efforts were totally in vain. At the beginning of the story, we read about Madame Loisel's home and we see with her the poverty and smallishness of the place, and the narrator describes all the things that it lacks and that the lady would wish for, as it is her perception that her life should be.
