    The word is disdainful.

Shere Khan is not able to abide by the Jungle Law; he has no honor and is viewed as deceptive and manipulative, using others for personal gain and vengeance. The author has no sympathy for him and portrays the tiger as a criminal and a coward, not able to hunt anymore. The death of Shere Khan is also dishonorable.
