Locate and analyze two examples of Bradford use of allusions to the Bible and of references to gods intervention in events, what purpose might these devices serve in his account?

    1. God's providence and protection were acknowledged as the reason why the Mayflower was able to transport them (the pilgrims) to the New World (Amerca).

    2. Because they were God's elect, they could justify cruelty to the pagan native Indians.

    Notes:

    Bradford saw God's hand n everything. For example,

    (a) Getting seeds for planting was God's work.

    (b) Forcing the Indians to convert to Christianity was God's desire.

    (c) Despising other people of different religions was God's desire to separate them from the heathen.

    (d) The death or tragedies that befell non-believers was God's work
