    Answer: In this essay, Anna Quindlen explains the reason why America is a country full of contradictions, she says that even though the country was founded over different mixtures of people, the country became a country full of racism, sexism, oppression and other forms of intolerance and hatred. Despite the fact that conflict was always present in the story of this country, people is aware that Americans have many different roots and they are united by the territory they share in the present rather than the different backgrouns and the country they were born.

    In conclusion, immigrants are accepted somehow, because they were always going to find a community made up by old immigrants in the country and feel at home.
