"the way in which a character changes over time, especially when conflicts arise" I think is the best answer. However, it is technically the way the author reveals the character's personality over time. So in my opinion, it is a combination of B and D:

    B) the way in which a character changes over time, especially when conflicts arise

    D) the way an author describes or conveys a character’s traits
