In "The Lady of Shallot," the author develops the theme that artists are set apart from society by emphasizing the solitude of the weaver.

"The Lady of Shallot," is a ballad which tells the story of Lady Shallot. She has been cursed because of which she has to live in the world of shadows. She can only view the world from a mirror. She admires the beauty of the outside world and wishes to come out of her dark world. She weaves in her dark world. This signifies the fact that artists have to live apart from the society, in isolation so as to deeply indulge in the art. Though this is ironic because living in isolation they portray people and society in their art. At times when they wish to live in the real world, they fail in doing so. When she sees Lancelot, she fells in love with him and follows him which leads her towards her death.
