In Chapter 1, Holden states, " ... I felt like I was sort of disappearing." In Chapter 14, Holden says, "I thought I was dying." Find two other statements that he makes in this chapter to indicate his mental state.

    A sense of Holden's state of mind can be derived from his following statements:

    1) In Chapter 5, Holden tells us about how Allie's death put him into a nervous breakdown, and he smashed all the garage windows with his fists.

    2) Also, at page number 98, while crossing the street, Holden says to Allie, "Don't let me disappear".

    From these statements, it is evident that Holden held Allie very close to his heart and was greatly affected by his death. As a result, his emotions manifested in the form of anger and fear of death.
