(2) In these programs, people live in thoroughly unrealistic situations-crammed in a house with strangers, travelling all over the globe with a partner, battling for victory on a desert island-and behave in utterly unrealistic ways. (3) So why do we watch them? (4) Some say it's the cheap thrill of watching a stranger's private moments. (5) But perhaps, instead, we watch reality TV because-surprisingly-it often shows us moments of genuine humanity.
