    The first option is the right one. If we look closely the banker participated in the bet out of boredom. The theme itself symbolizes the meaningless of life. So compare it to real life, you wouldn't mind giving a chance to a situation if it doesn't bother you. At this moment he didn't feel accountable or responsible, so he just went with the flow and tried.
