    Reading this excerpt, the tone suggests resignation or submission. It's as if the narrator have tried a lot of ways, but then realized that his efforts do not matter in the long run. Being out of prison does not mean he's truly free. This excerpt also signifies bravery because he has decided to face his battles once and for all.
