Explain the role of women in society during the Regency period. What expectations were made of them with regard to marriage and family?

During the Regency period, women lived lives constrained by domesticity and their men folk. A woman and her belongings became the husband's property after marriage. The bride could not choose her husband. Ther was no divorce and infidelity among women was a great crime whereas that was not the case with men. Inspite of all the hardships women preferred marriage to spinisterhood.
