Contractions are considered not concise and informal in academic and scholarly papers. Academic and scholarly papers are formal compared to speech and personal essays where contractions are usually used. Therefore, students should separate words in contractions.

Contractions are part of subjective writing.

    Explanation:

Contractions are not allowed, or should not be allowed in academic paper because it confuse. Also, academic papers need to have a technical and objective, precise writing, and those characteristics are not achieved with contraction.

So, at the end, contractions are informal, which is not the case of an academic paper.
