What is called the act, by a militarily strong country, of invading and taking over the sovereignty of another area? Many times by placing a settlement or settlements of its own people to live in the new land.

    Explanation: Just to elaborate a little on the answer, it can be added that colonization comes from the Latin word colonia, which, in Ancient Rome, designated a settlement in a conquered territory-other ancient cultures, such as Ancient Greece and Ancient Egypt, also practised colonialism in order to become more powerful. By using power and influence, one nation subjugates another nation, exploting its people and its resources. Colonial powers justified their actions by arguing that it was their obligation to intervene in these "barbaric" nations, with the goal of improving their lives.
