Descriptive outlining is the least active way to annotate a text that you are reading when compared to other ways like highlighting or underlining, paraphrase or summary of main ideas.

Highlighting or underlining is the most common form of annotating texts. Many people use this method to review material especially for exams.

Paraphrase is another common method of collecting your ideas. A series of brief notes beside main ideas are written. Its another way to make you understand in your own language what you are studying.
