Why is it important to read Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass in 2016 almost two hundred years after it was written

It is important to read this book because it shows how a race has persevered and struggled to survive. It also gives an inside view upon slavery in the south which can clue us in on the slavery that goes on today, thought it is obviously not as common.

To understand the harshness of slavery in the south
