    x (angle1) + (3x-5) (angle 2) = 143 (sum of both angles).

    x+3x-5=143

    combine like terms: 4x-5=143

add 5 to both sides: 4x=148

divide both sides by 4: x=37

    substitute for x: angle 1=37, angle 2 = 106
