    The answer would be D. Although he failed, this failure lead other expeditions to explore Antartica. Even he tried the second time around to try to fulfill his goal however he still failed. After this, many expeditions were organized until after more than 40 years it was achieved by the Commonwealth Trans-Antarctic Expedition.
