What motivated the father to call his young daughter back to meet the cabuliwallah

In the beginning of the story "Kabuliwala" Mimi, the narrator's daughter, calls out to the Kabuliwala, but she runs and disappears as soon as he approaches their home. The father calls her back to meet the Kabuliwala so that she learns not to be afraid of him. They later develop a happy friendship.
