Read the claim.

Claim: The suffragette-defaced penny is the most historically significant object because it represents the true beginnings of women's fight for the vote.

Which statement is the strongest counterclaim to the claim?

The campaign for women's suffrage had actually begun with the Great Reform Act of 1832, long before the defaced penny was created.

Many other tactics, such as letter bombings and hunger strikes, were taking place at the same time that the defaced penny was being circulated.

The extremely slow process of redefining the British political nation began in the 1820s and took many decades to fully unfold.

The defaced penny was not created until 1903, so it could not possibly represent the true beginnings of women's suffrage.

The correct answer is: Many other tactics, such as letter bombings and hunger strikes, were taking place at the same time that the defaced penny was being circulated.

Indeed, the claim does not pretend to be based on chronological historicity but on significance. It is easy, by simple common sense to come to the conclusion that actions like bombings and hunger strikes were most significant that a defaced coin which people can easily chose to ignore and continue with their daily routines. Ignoring bombs, especially if these are located near you, is a bit hard and so are hunger strikes, unless one is insensitive to the death of political dissenters.
