Foreshadowing is a literary device that writers use to hint about events that will happen in the story. Like in the Great Gatsby by Fitzgerald, you can see that he used foreshadowing in several occasions. The most notable among them is the fact that he used foreshadowing to hint that something was going to happen to Gatsby by using words like "preyed," "turned out," and the like. The past tense and the ominous tone hints that he was going to die.
