Hedda does get the power to mould a person's life. She had an unyielding force over Lovborg. It is seen when she convinces him to break his months long sobriety and pressures him to drink. He cannot resist her, so he drinks. This is what leads to all of his future troubles. As he parties with his friends, he becomes so intoxicated that he has to be carried out, leaving his manuscript for Tesman to find. Lovborg ends up in a brothel and a scandal ensues when he makes a scene and the police are called. Later, he arrives at the Tesman home and talks to Hedda. It is she, that convinces him to commit suicide and even goes so far as to give him the gun to do it. Although, Lovborg dies of accidentally shooting himself, rather than suicide, it is quite likely that if he had not died in this manner, her words to him would have had the intended effect. Hedda controlled Lovborg's destiny and used this power to completely destroy his reputation and his life.
