He is also regarded as a central figure of Romantism in the US literature and he was one of the first writers of short stories in America. Poe is generally considered the inventor of the detective fiction genre and is further credited with contributing to the emerging genre of science fiction. His most famous stories are: The Black Cat, The Facts in the Case of Mr. Valdhemar, The Pit and the Pendulum, The Mask of the Red Death, The Premature Burial, Legeia, Morella, The Fall of the House of Usher, and others.
