In the tragedy Antigone, by Sophocles, Eurydice of Thebes berated her husband, King Creon, because he had driven their son Haemon, along with Haemon's fiancee, Antigone, to commit suicide. Then, in a moment of despair, Eurydice took her own life by piercing her heart with a sword.
