In the Exodus, the Chorus says, "[W]e cannot call a mortal being happy before he's passed beyond life free from pain." Explain what this means and how it relates to the themes of the play.

    This means that a person is not truly happy until they die and leave the mortal world and enter the spiritual world (depends on religion) because the mortal world is a world of suffering and pain. I have not read or watched the play in question so I will not be able to answer the last half of the question for you.
