Why did Larry McCaffery follow a question with other questions in his interview with Haruki Murakami?

"What's the problem? Is it not as interesting? Is it the voice?"

He wanted to unsettle Murakami.

He wanted a different answer.

He wanted the interview to go in another direction.

He was not satisfied with the depth of Murakami's previous responses.
