    The answer is the first one, the characters are portrayed as in real life. The reason is that Ibsen uses the same type of language people in real life use. This is a characteristic of his wrtitings. Ibsen puts his created characters in situations any person would be. A citizen or a rural person will surelly find something in common with the characters in Triffles and that is why they are realistic.
