Driving to the fair was a troublesome, difficult situation today. We planned on leaving at 5:30 p. m., which was unfortunately during rush hour. The traffic would be horrible and we did not want to be stuck. We decided to consult a map in an attempt to find an alternative route.

    I would say sentence 1. It should use a different word to express how they feel, or they could just leave it at troublesome.
