    1.

The theme for "Poor Fish" is Love is blind. Because the main character does not believe that he is a worthy individual. He constantly thinks he is inferior to everybody and has low self-esteem. But, once he meets a woman named Ida, he begins to gain confidence and starts to love himself as she loves him. Despite his apparent physical unattractiveness.

    2. The theme that best identifies the conflict in the sentence is Man vs. Society. Throughout the story it would appear that it is man vs. man; however, in this sentence, the main character is exclaiming hopelessness because he means everything to the woman but he is something completely different when viewed by society, "other people".
