What did you learn about the role of women in the societies described in the reading sections in this unit? Describe how a woman cope with the conflicts they encounter.

About the role of women in the societies as described in the selections by Djebar, Rifaat, al-Idlibi and Ayyoub, these women have been struggling to gain their rights in their country and are still trying to do so in order to cope with other conflicts they encounter. The female characters were at odds with their roles in their societies.

There are different societies where women have a different role. In Japan in traditional times women had to bind their feet and be quiet and serve tea. In France women have a lot of freedom like not shaving.
