The city should add more bicycle lanes to make commuting safer for both bicyclists and drivers.

A. After Timmy Jenkins was struck by a driver while riding in a bike lane on Reed Road last summer, many in Brighton wondered if more could have been done to prevent the accident.

B. The addition of bicycle lanes will decrease the amount of space that motorists have to maneuver, thus increasing the probability of traffic accidents.

C. Biking Times reports that many major U. S. cities are currently adding bike lanes and other cycling infrastructure.

D. Minneapolis and Portland, the two most bike-friendly cities in the United States, each saw a sizeable drop in traffic incidents after their bike-lane initiatives took effect.
