Read the paragraph.

(1) When I get to my home town, my first stop will be my uncle's old gas station to fill the car. (2) My second stop will be Lancer's Diner for some homemade cherry pie. (3) Next, I'll drop in for a visit with old Mr. Butterworth, who lived next door to us. (4) My last stop will be the house I grew up in to see who lives there now.

What revision should be made to maintain parallel structure?

A) Sentence 1 should be revised to read, "When I get to my hometown, my first stop will be my uncle's old gas station."

B) Sentence 2 should be revised to read, "After that I will stop at Lancer's Diner for some homemade cherry pie."

C) Sentence 3 should be revised to read, "My next stop will be old Mr. Butterworth's for a chat with my favorite neighbor."

D) Sentence 4 should be revised to read, "My last stop will be the house in which I grew up to see who lives there now."

The revision that should be made in order to maintain parallel structure is option C) "Sentence 3 should be revised to read, "My next stop will be old Mr. Butterworth's for a chat with my favorite neighbor." since the rest of the sentences use the same structure to introduce the new concepts.

In sentences 1, 2 and 4 the introductory phrases are "My first stop", "my second stop", and "my last stop". So the only sentence that does not follow the same pattern is number 3 by using the word "next" instead of "my next stop". Parallel structures are not followed when there is a break in the sentence pattern as in sentence 3.
