The word termagant comes from the Latin words "tri-" meaning three and "vagant" and from an Old French word "tervagant" and Italian word "Trivagante" meaning wandering. A termagant (noun) refers to a deity with a violent temperament being worshipped by Muslims. As an adjective, it means "quarrelsome" or "scolding".
