I get out of bed at 7 a. m. I wake up my littlest sister, Jayna, and I let the dog outside until it starts barking. I pack my baseball uniform unless I don't have afternoon practice. I race out the door; however, I'm usually late anyway.

    See the sentences below.

    Explanation:

    1. A declarative sentence:

I wake up early in the morning every day.

It is just stating an idea or fact.

    2. An imperative sentence.

    Hand me the some bread.

The sentence is making a request.

    3. An interrogative sentence.

Can you leave me at the bus station, because I am late?

This sentence is asking a question, thus it ends in a question mark. See that the verbs "can" and "am" are both in present tense, then they are consistent.

    4. An exclamatory sentence.

Watch out for the car that stopped abruptly!

You are conveying a strong feeling of urgency. The exclamatory sentences end with the exclamation mark:!

    A further explanation:

Verb tense consistency refers to not changing the tense throughout a clause. Switching from one tense to another is a syntax error, that makes the clauses weird or even unintelligible.
