When Link questions Atticus's judgment for defending Tom Robinson, Atticus replies: "Link, that boy might go to the chair, but he's not going till the truth's told ... And you know what the truth is." What is the truth? How might the reader understand this situation better than Scout?

The truth is that Tom Robinson is not guilty of raping Mayella, a white woman.

    Explanation:

As Scout is the main character in To kill a Mocking Bird, she is telling the story seen through her eyes. As a reader of the book you obviously have more information, gathered by what other characters say or do.
