As I know the Sojourner Truth is an American abolitionist and women's rights activist. She was born into slavery in Swartekill, New York and was one of thirteen children born to James and Elizabeth Baumfree, who were slaves of Colonel Hardenbergh. That is why the theme of the slavery is very important for her and when Sojourner Truth refers to her culture's attitude towards slavery, she's giving personal idea as I think.
