Read these lines from Emily Dickinson's "Cobwebs":

The spider as an artist

Has never been employed

Though his surpassing merit

Is freely certified

By every broom and Bridget

Throughout a Christian land

Neglected son of genius,

I take thee by the hand.

    The narrator admires the spider. She admires the artistic way of the spider, and it can be argued that she finds similarities between herself and the spider because although they are both artistic in their own ways, society does not accept them. For example, the line, "Throughout a Christian land, neglected son of genius, I take thee by the hand"
