How did William Blake's engravings, which accompanied his poems, provide what one analyst called "the missing link with commerce"?

I believe it is because he used a method of engraving called intaglio engraving which could be mass produced so could be widely disseminated amongst the general public. He was both a very skilled and artistic engraver and also a renowned English poet.
