People who in exchange for their military service, held land for a king or lord

    A lord was any noble that held land, the fief is that land, and the vassal was the person who was granted possession of that land by the lord. In exchange for the fief (and the lord's protection), the vassal provided some sort of service for the lord, of both the military and non-military variety. This is my answer hope u enjoyed
