    Ernest Miller Hemingway was born on July 21, 1899 in Oak Park, Illinois, as the second of six children. When he finished high school, Hemingway worked as a reporter for the Kansas City Star. After few months, he went to the Italian Front and worked as an ambulance driver in World War I. He suffered severe injuries, which forced him to return home in 1918. In A Farewell to Arms (1929), he described his experience in war.

    Hemingway first god married in 1921 to Hadley Richardson, but she was the first of his four wives. He had three children - Jack, Gregory and Patrick.

    After publishing The Old Man and the Sea (1952), he went to Africa on safari, where he got injured once again in two near-fatal plane crashes. This resulted in his poor health. Hemingway bought his house in Idaho in 1959, where he eventually ended his life. He died on July 2, 1961.
