What do some captives do to escape the misery of the Atlantic crossing?

    Many of the slaves jumped of the ships into the cold water and committed suicide this way. They didn't want to go to the new world and be slaves and the crossing was dreadful on its own, so they committed suicide instead of staying obedient. This was quite common which is why they were tied to the ship often.
